The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • U Aung Myo Min, Union Minister of Human Rights-NUG, was awarded a gold medal on human rights by Sydney Peace Foundation.
  • At 10:00 am Tuesday, there was a meeting between the People’s Police Force under Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and People’s Security Force from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region.
  • At 3:00 pm Monday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Township People’s Administration from Sagaing Region.
  • According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, the military junta was able to control less than 45% of the area of the country by the end of 2022.

Revolution Activities

  • In Pekone and Pin Laung on the border of Shan and Karenni, 2 women and a child lost their lives whereas 18 people got injured due to the junta’s air attacks and heavy artillery.
  • To carry out military operations in Yangon Region, a fund-raising campaign for 500,000 USD will get started in June.
  • In Beelin Township under Karen National Union Brigade (1), a mortar shot by the junta army fell into Awungyi Village, injuring a monk, two novices and two local people.
  • In Butalin Township of Sagaing Region, there were two mine attacks using mines on junta troops.
  • According to Black Eagle Defence Force, they conducted a mine attack on a junta convoy on their way out from Monywa.
  • In Bago Region, Sergeant Kyaw Htwe was arrested for the case in which political prisoners had escaped from Taungoo Prison. Reportedly, he died during interrogation on Monday.
  • According to a UN officer on Monday, the United Nations Agencies have been faced with challenges to feed Rohingya people. However, Bangladesh alone should not be responsible for the burden of over a million refugees.
  • The UN warned that there was deep concern for Myanmar which might face food insecurity due to armed conflicts and violent activities in the country.
  • Sagaing District PDF (1) warned that they would take action against the telecom towers and branch offices of ATOM if they continue their blackout on incoming and outgoing calls.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Hakha Township of Chin State, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing in Thimit Battle. Consequently, an alliance of Chin Defence Forces lost 11 members.

The Military Council

  • In Yebyu Township of Taninthayi Region, a local woman from Kanbauk Area was sentenced to 10 years in prison on 24 May.
  • On 25 May, a junta delegation arrived at Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh. They then went to No. (26) IDP Camp and discussed with about 300 refugees, who had agreed to return home, for nearly three hours.
  • After the coup, Myanmar has been joining hands with Iran for secret military activities. Reportedly, the military junta has used projectiles and drones produced by Iran to attack revolutionary forces and the public.
  • According to the junta Embassy in Tokyo of Japan, it used to cost 4000 Yen for the renewal of each passport. Reportedly, it will be 5000 Yen starting on 1 June.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that it must be the primary target for all railways in Myanmar to run at 100km per hour and there must be activities from engineering perspectives to exceed that speed in the future.
  • The junta leader claimed that they had been making arrangements for the electric trains to run their services and they had been testing the carriages.

Summary on 31 May

  • In Sagaing, Magwe, Chin, Karenni and Kayin, the junta armed forces have been burning villages, plantations and seeds. They have also been killing people. Consequently, most farmers are not able to do their work. Therefore, the UN predicted that there might be food insecurity in the country. It is necessary to provide help to the displaced people.
  • Rohingya people have had to run away due to violent activities of the junta armed forces. Reportedly, the junta’s plan for the repatriation failed. It happened because they just want to abuse the situation for their political crisis, rather than have empathy for the refugees.
