The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In memory of the 8888 Uprising, the NUG held an event and a talk on Monday.
  • In a statement on the 34th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising, theCommittee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) vowed that together with other revolution forces, they would keep fighting against the military dictatorship.
  •  
  • Minister of Human Rights-NUG called on the public to uphold the 8888 spirit and take part in the revolution in order to uproot the military dictatorship and build a federal democratic union.
  • Minister of International Cooperation-NUG said that on the historic anniversary of the 8888 Uprising, he recalled Myanmar people who had sacrificed their lives for human rights, democracy and freedom. He added that they stand with the general public trying to work under the inhumane oppression of the military junta for justice, peace and democracy.
  • In Indianapolis in the United States, the 34th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising was conducted and it was joined by Myanmar expatriates.

Revolution Activities

  • On Monywa-Amyint road, a rally of villagers protested against the military dictatorship on Monday, holding signs – “Let’s strive together for the unfinished 8888 Uprising”.
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, some protesters went to local PDFs and urged them to uproot the military dictatorship.
  • For the end of the military dictatorship, Kalay people carried out a motorbike strike on the 34th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising.
  • On Monday, a rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on the 34th anniversary of  the 8888 Uprising.
  • In memory of the 8888 Uprising, Butalin people conducted a motorbike strike against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • At about 1:00 pm on Saturday, a convoy of 13 military trucks was attacked with mines by local PDF. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died.
  • Somewhere in a liberated area, a combined rally of Maymyo Strike Committee, LGBTs and the public protested against the military dictatorship.
  • On the 34th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising, Myanmar people in Mae Sauk called for legal action against those involved in the execution of anti-junta activists including U Jimmy and U Phyo Zayar Thaw.
  • In the south of Thailand, there was an event commemorating the 8888 Uprising at a school of Myanmar migrants on Monday. Reportedly, it was joined by Executive Director U Htoo Chit, teachers, students and Myanmar people there.
  • In Taninthayi Region, local PDFs conducted protests against the military dictatorship on the 34th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising.
  • In commemoration of the 8888 Uprising, Kanbauk youth carried out a red-shirt campaign together with a paper strike on Monday morning, expressing their disapproval of the military dictatorship.
  • In Yangon Region, Thonekwa Township Basic Education Students’ Union protested against the military dictatorship on Monday, holding signs – “Let’s strive for the unfinished 8888 Uprising”.
  • Somewhere in Shwepyitha Township, a combined rally of students’ unions hung a banner for the 34th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising and expressed their objection to the military dictatorship.
  • In Thaketa Township, the junta convoy was attacked with mines by Urban Guerrillas near Construction Stop at 8:00 am Monday.
  • Amidst tight security measures, Yangon people conducted a strike with umbrellas containing the numbers 8888 in the centre of Yangon.
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magwe Region, the junta army set fire to Sargyin Village at 7:00 am Monday.
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, a combined rally of Lonekhine Group marched against the military dictatorship on Monday, raising a banner - ‘The resolution of Spring Revolution, the victory flag of 8888’.
  • In Myitkyina, Kachin State Civilian movement (KSCM) conducted an anti-junta movement in front of No. (3) Secondary School with the banner - ‘We’ll demand the full payment of 88 debt’.
  • In Latbadan Township of Bago Region, Soe Win, the junta administrator of Myoma Ward, was shot dead by a local PDF at about 7:00 am Monday.
  • In New York in the United States, NYCBC led an anti-junta movement in commemoration of the 34th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising on Sunday, chanting slogans for the end of the military dictatorship and the release of political prisoners including Daw Aung San Su Kyi.
  • In Paris, Myanmar people in France got together at Bastille on the 34th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising and paid tribute to those who had lost lives due to the junta armed forces during the Spring Revolution and protested against the military dictatorship.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, a combined force of KIA and PDF conducted attacks and took control of the junta army camp as well as the camp of Shanni National Army under the junta in Sezin Area on Monday morning.
  • According to the communication person of Arakan Liberation Party-ALP, they arrested a resident of Sittway on suspicion of involvement in the captivity of one of their EC members- Khine Paw Lin. He also added that they would do the same to other associates of the case.

The Military Council

  • The junta propaganda media accused that 11 local people including 2 children had died in Twinma Village of Myaing Township in Magwe Region due to the attack of PDFs.
  • According to the junta fishery department, over 80,000 tons of fish had been exported for the first quarter of the 2022 fiscal year and it was worth more than 91 million USD.
  • The junta Hotel Department has been putting pressure on 10 hotels in Yangon to extend their expired licenses.
  • The military junta stated that without the invitation of the junta foreign minister to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Cambodia, it could not be regarded as an ASEAN Summit.
  • In Pathein of Ayeyarwaddy Region, the military junta has been persuading the unemployed with the incentive of 50,000 MMK per month to set up a so-called people’s army.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that all Myanmar people were to join hands with ASEAN for peace and security in and out of the region.

Summary on 8 August

  • ASEAN has been disappointed with Min Aung Hlaing as he failed to keep his promise. On the other hand, the junta leader said that without inviting him, it could not be regarded as the ASEAN Summit and Myanmar people were to join hands with the association for peace.
  • The military junta falsely claimed that 11 people had lost lives in Twinma Village due to PDFs. In reality, the junta armed forces set fire to the village again and again.
  • Since 1988, the public have been fighting the inhumane activities of successive military dictators. On the 34th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising, there were protests all over the country, vowing for the end of the military dictatorship through the Spring Revolution.
