Teacher recruit call for educating IDP children in southern Shan State

A students’ union in Taungyi is calling for teachers to apply to teach internally displaced children in the liberated area of southern Shan State.

The students’ union of Taungyi Educational Degree College said in a recent statement that they are seeking to recruit teachers to maintain education for children in southern Shan State.

The hostilities and crisis that followed the 2021 military coup has had seriously negative effects on school children and students.

The Taungyi Education Degree College Students’ Union stated on 6 July that schools have been opened to provide education for the children of IDPs in the liberated areas. However, there is an overwhelming need for teachers to be able to educate children in those schools.

“More than 170 schools are open and the numbers of students are over 3,000. There is no indication to the number of teachers that can be hired to cover every student,” said a spokesperson for the Taungyi Education Degree College’s Students’ Union.

The statement said that teachers or anyone who is interested in the education sector, and those who have a genuine interest in IDP children and the ability of them to get an education, should contact the Taungyi Education Degree College’s Student’s Union.

The statement also added that teachers interested to educate IDP children can contact the page messenger of the Taungyi Education Degree College Students' Union.
