Temporary closure of Yangon General Hospital departments

Five outpatient departments at Yangon General Hospital will be temporarily closed, according to a social media statement made on the evening of 14 February.

Because of COVID-19 infections among doctors, nurses and health workers, the five outpatient departments of Yangon General Hospital will be temporarily closed, the statement said.

The departments are the Department of General Practitioners, the Department of Cancer Medicine, the Department of Arthritis, the Department of Gastroenterology and the Hormone Department.

The Department of Arthritis will be closed from 15 to 18 February. The Department of Cancer Medicine will be closed from 15 February, with no date set for its reopening. The other departments will be closed from 15 to 25 February.

This followed an 11 February announcement that said the Cardiology Department at Yangon General Hospital would be closed from 14 to 18 February.

Patients for other outpatient departments and emergency patients will be treated as usual and inpatients should contact the hospital after they receive their appointment.
