Two killed, seven injured in bomb blast at Mandalay electricity office

Two people were killed and one was seriously injured in a bomb blast at an Electricity Power Corporation (EPC) office in Pyigyidagon Township, Mandalay region around 11 a.m. on July 16, according to eyewitnesses.

A male deputy in-charge of the township electricity and a woman who came to pay an electricity bill were killed and seven others were injured.

The Electricity Power Corporation (EPC) office in Pyigyidagon Township is located near Bon Pyan Tawya monastery, and after the bomb exploded, junta troops blocked the road to investigate.

A number of explosions have taken place at electricity offices across Myanmar. Many members of the public are reported to be refusing to pay their electricity bills as they claim the money goes to help support the military junta which came to power in a coup on 1 February.
