Yangon airport runway closed temporarily after a plane nose wheel breaks

Passengers said the nose wheel landing gear of a plane from Golden Myanmar Airlines broke forcing Yangon International Airport to temporarily close the runway for about one and half hours.

Golden Myanmar Airlines Y5-506 ATR-72-600 departed from Mandalay to destination Yangon and the landing gear of nose wheel broke when it landed on the runway of Yangon International Airport at 4:35 p.m. on August 2.

Officials from the airport said the aircraft was towed to the apron and runway vacated, being resumed normal airport operations at 6:30 p.m.

Flights were delayed due to the temporary runway closure.

Mizzima contacted Golden Myanmar Airlines to ascertain this incident but not yet available.

This is reportedly the third such incident reported this year. No significant damage or injuries were reported in the incident.
