Myanmar's Yangon regional government is planning to implement a sky train project in Yangon, Xinhua reported.

The project, the ‘Yangon Urban Mass Rapid Transit’, was made public on Sunday in Hlaingthaya township.

As the first phase connecting the eastern and western parts of Yangon, the 18-km-long sky train project will start from Hlaingthaya Station along the Yangon-Pathein road, cross over Hlaing River, run along the north of Bayinnaung Bridge and stop at Parami Station.

The sky train is claimed to be based on standard models of Thailand and Indonesia and the period for survey and design phase will last until 2022, experts said, adding that the project, which will ensure minimal impact on the environment and the community, is targeted to be completed by 2027.
