The Toshiba Corporation has been awarded a contract by the Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise to supply four turbine and generator units for the 308-MW Upper Yeywa hydropower project, according to Hydro World on March 30.
The MEPE contract was awarded to Toshiba's Chinese subsidiary Toshiba Hydro power [Hangzhou] Company, Ltd, with deliveries to be made to engineering, procurement and construction contractor Zhejiang Orient Engineering Company, Ltd, beginning in March 2016.
The Japan-based Toshiba Group said that the award is its second in Myanmar after the company previously supplied a hydraulic turbine for the 28.4-MW Sedawgyi plant in 1989.
Located near Taunmgchay on the Myitnge River, the plant is part of Myanmar's plan to further develop its hydroelectric generating capacity.
