Thirteen members of Chin joint resistance forces were killed and 10 were injured during a raid on the Military Council’s base in Thantlang Township in Chin State on 28 August.

The Chin National Army (CNA) reported that the resistance force raided 269 Infantry Division, and the military carried out an airstrike and heavy weapons shelling in retaliation.

“Six members of the Chin National Army and seven from the Chin Defence Force were killed due to the airstrike and heavy weapon shelling,” Salai Htet Ni, the spokesperson of CNA, told Mizzima.

The military has mobilized its troops by with three trucks to reinforce their soldiers in Thantlang.

Salai Htet Ni also said that there were some causalities amongst the military, and their injured soldiers were taken away in ambulances.

The joint operation of the Chin resistance forces was carried out by local rebel groups from Thantlang, Hakha and Zophae.

He added that conflicts were suspended on 29 August morning, and more clashes are likely to resume in the next few days.

On 14 August, the joint Chin resistance forces also raided another military post in Thantlang Township, killing three soldiers and leading to the arrest of two soldiers. Two RPGs, three MA guns and ammunition were confiscated from the military. Two Chin rebels also died in the conflict.

Thantlang, with 2,000 houses and a 10,000 population, is the home town of former Vice-President Henry Van Thio, and the arson attacks of the military have forced the local people to flee their homes turning it into a ghost city.
