1,500 anti-junta fighters have died in the past year

More than 1,500 anti-junta fighters had lost their lives as of 7 September 2022, exactly one year after the declaration of the Spring Revolution People’s Defensive War to overthrow the military dictatorship.

The figures came from the National Unity Government (NUG) Acting President Duwa Lashi La, on 7 September.

He said: “We respect and honor them as martyred heroes and salute all those who sacrificed their lives for the revolutionary struggle. In addition, I would like to express my deepest condolence to the families of the [dead] revolutionary fighters.”

He also said that in the same period the junta had lost 20,150 soldiers and that approximately 7,000 had been injured.

He also revealed that in the past year the NUG had formed more than 300 People’s Defence Forces (PDF) to fight against the junta.

Acting President Duwa Lashi La concluded his speech by saying: “Let’s all do our best to make this coming year a historic year. We appeal to all the revolutionary soldiers and EROs to collectively resist and uproot the military dictator while complying with an honourable code of conduct. I would also like to encourage the public to continue supporting us with undiminished zeal. We need your continued support in order to move forward with this defensive war and revolution.
