19 Myanmar junta personnel killed in Sagaing’s Khin-U Township

Junta troops and members of the junta-aligned Pyu Saw Htee militia attacked and set fire to Innpat Village in Sagaing Region’s Khin-U Township.

The junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee members came from Ywarthitkone village, in Ye-U Township and attacked Innpat Village with heavy artillery and small arms at 5:00 a.m. on 24 September, according to the Khin-U Township's News and Information Team.

Villagers were trapped in their homes and afraid to move because of the gunfire and the junta soldiers entering the village.

After the junta occupied the village 10 local people’s defence forces (PDFs) and the Khin-U Support Organization (KSO) launched a counter-attack using landmines.

The counter-attack killed eight junta personnel and allowed the defence forces to free some of the villagers and get them out of the village, but the junta soldiers remained in the village.

After the counterattack junta personnel set fire to 10 houses in the village. Then, at about 10:40 a.m. the defence forces launched a second counterattack. This time the fighting lasted for about 40 minutes. Eight junta personnel were killed, and the remaining junta forces were driven out of the village, according to the Khin-U Township's News and Information Team.

According to locals, the junta personnel burned and destroyed over 10 houses and three motorcycles in the village.  They also stole four motorcycles and 10 phones.

Innpat is a village of about 500 households.
