Artillery attack on Sagaing village used as junta base

Defence forces attacked Tawpu Village in Sagaing's Monywa Township with heavy artillery because the junta army and the army-aligned Pyu Saw Htee militia are using the village as a base.

The Monywa District Battalion (5) Aung San Force (ASF) used four artillery guns to fire 20 artillery rounds into the village at 10:00 p.m. on 26 October.

“Because the Military Council forces are launching airstrikes in Pale Township our mission is to attack army bases as much as we can. Pyu Saw Htee militia and junta troops are using Tawpu Village as their base, that’s why we attacked," said an ASF press officer.

According to reports from people’s defence forces (PDFs) on the ground two Pyu Saw Htee members were killed and another four were injured as a result of the artillery fire.

The press officer said: “While we were firing artillery into their village the Pyu Saw Htee militia and members of the combined [defence] forces engaged in a one-and-a-half-hour gunfight.

The defence forces involved in the attack were: Monwya District Battalion (5) Aung San Force, Dragon Brothers' People Defense Force, Special Guerilla Force, Spring Revolution Alliances (SRA), The Brightness Monwya and Saya Chit and Bothers Monywa PDF
