Attendees draw lots for People's Military training

Due to the large number of enrollees in the wards in Bago to attend People's Military Training by the Military Council those wanting to apply have to register by drawing lots. The most registered wards are Oue Thar Myo Thit Ward (4,5) and Phaung Daw Oo Ward.

“The largest number of Dalans (informant) live in those wards. There are also Pyu Saw Htee (militia) members in these areas. Let alone ordinary people to attend the training, even these informants are so many that they have to draw lots,” said a resident.

In some wards, administrators have been asked to compile household lists, request copies, and collect a list of young men.

The military is requesting at least 10 to 40 people to attend people’s military training in each ward. Men at home are required to pay between K 1,500 and K 2,000 if they are unable to attend the training.

“No ordinary people attend the military training. Actually, only Dalan (informant) and Pyu Saw Htee will attend. It is unacceptable that we have to pay for the training fee now. After training, they will kill the people again,” said a resident of Ward 2.

The militia training must be attended at the 77th Division based in Bago. The training period is 10 days and the salary is 150,000 kyats per month. According to sources close to the army, they will be sent to the front line after training although Mizzima has not been able to confirm.
