Aung San Suu Kyi’s final appeals hearings against convictions received from the Myanmar junta will be heard in the first week of December, at the junta-controlled Union Supreme Court, according to legal sources.

Aung San Suu Kyi was originally convicted by the junta of 19 offences and sentenced to 33 years in prison in a series of secretive trials held from June 2021. She still has eight appeals related to those convictions pending.

The appeals are related to charges of electoral fraud under Section 130(a) of the penal code, violations of Section 3(1)-C of the Secrets Act, five cases involving the purported acquisition and leasing of a helicopter for natural disaster prevention and a corruption case involving the offering of gold and dollars to U Phyo Min Thein.

The lawyers representing Aung San Suu Kyi in the appeals trials have been unable to meet with her or discuss the case with her, despite submitting multiple written requests to the court since January 2023.

Previous appeals on the other convictions have already been rejected by the Union Supreme Court.

Aung San Suu Kyi is currently serving a 27-year prison sentence as the junta reduced some of her prison term. She is 78 years old.
