Beijing says no consular protection for jailed Chinese-Canadian tycoon

 

A Chinese-Canadian tycoon, Xiao Jianhua, who disappeared from a Hong Kong hotel five years ago has been sentenced to 13 years in prison and his company fined $8 billion for embezzlement and bribery. Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Wang Wenbin added that because China doesn't recognize dual nationality, Xiao Jianhua, won't enjoy the right to consular protection from other countries.
