Local residents confirmed that there were bomb explosions at 2:20 p.m. on the second day of the traditional Thingyan Water Festival on 14 April at a Thingyan pavilion near the Ward (10) administration office at Arrman bus stop on Sagaing Road in Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon Region.

It has been reported that one person died and another person was injured in the attack.

A local resident says, “Two bombs were thrown at the Thingyan pavilion. I heard that a person died and another person was injured at the scene. After the explosions, the place fell silent and people dispersed.”

Resistance groups Burma Dragon Army, Yangon People Defense Force (PDF), Spring Revolution Flames (SRF), and Free Tiger Ranger claimed that they jointly conducted this attack, according to a statement issued by them.

The statement also said that they carried out the bomb attack because ward administrators and supporters of the military junta were annoying the public by drinking and dancing during this festival time.

Moreover, the groups had warned people not to participate in and celebrate the festival activities set up by the military junta, and to stay away from military supporters.

Many areas of Myanmar have been quiet during this normally festive period as people quietly protest against the military junta.
