Chin defence forces claim high Myanmar junta death toll in week of fighting

The Chin Defence Forces are claiming success in a number of clashes with Myanmar junta troops over a week or so of fighting.

From May 3 to 9, the Chin Defense Forces attacked two military columns on Chin's Hakha-Falam-Kalay road and Matupi-Mindat route, killing 68 military troops, according to a statement released by the Chin National Front (CNF). Eight fighters from the Chin Defense Forces were killed in the attacks.

From 3 May to 6 May, in the operation area of the Chin National Front-Tatmadaw along with CAN, Chin Defense Force (Thantlang), CDF-Thantlang, Chin National Defense Force (Zo Phei), CDF-Zo Phei, and Chin National Defense Force clashed with the junta forces at least four times and killed 34 military troops and wounded 20 others, according to the CNF.

About 150 military troops with two tanks and 27 trucks traveling from Hakha to Falam-Kalay was intercepted by the Chin Forces. The clash with the military took place in Ranthlo, Tlangzar and Taar villages located on the road from Hakha to Falam.

The Myanmar troops took arrested 15 people from Hakha to use as human shields and set fire to 10 houses in Ranthlo village and also set fire to 16 houses in Tlangzar including the United Pentecostal Church (UPC). On 9 May, CNDF mined the military convoy which was on its way from Falam to Kalay, killing four soldiers.

In addition, on 7 May and 8 May, about 300 military troops marched from Matupi to Mindat-Kyaukthu in a convoy of 70 vehicles and were intercepted three times, resulting in the death of 30 soldiers, injury to others, and the destruction of some of the vehicles, according to a CNF statement.

During the clashes between Hakha to Falam from 3 to 6 May, four CNA members and four CDF- Thantlang members, a total of eight gave their lives for the people and the nation, the statement said.

The convoy is continuing from Falam to Kalay and the convoy from Matupi was not been able to enter Mindat, according to a local defence force.
