Continued vigilance called for in coronavirus fight in Myanmar

A spokesperson for the Department of Medical Research said a new coronavirus strain which is 10 times more infectious has been found in Myanmar, according to a report by DVB.

In early days of pandemic in Myanmar, the D614 strain has found and after May 7, G614 has been reported.

G614 has been found among imported cases lately. Therefore, the National Level Central Committee for Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19 urged the public to become vigilant in case of a so-called “second wave” of the pandemic.

According to science journals, the virus is mutating and there may be several strains. The D614 and the G614 are the two main infections identified so far.

Myanmar currently has recorded a total of 409 cases with 331 recoveries and six deaths.
