Three small explosive devices were fired with a home-made grenade launcher at the Myanmar Plaza branch of Harry’s Bar on Monday evening.
A resistance group called Special Task Agency of Burma-STA claimed responsibility.
According to a spokesperson for the group, the waiters were told beforehand to quietly tell the patrons to leave.
“As a result, no one got injured, but only bar tables and glasses were damaged," he said.
One of the explosive devices failed to explode.
A shopkeeper said after the explosion, a number of junta soldiers visited the scene.
Harry’s Bar is reportedly owned by a shareholder of the Htoo group of companies run by Myanmar businessman Tay Za.
Myanmar Plaza, one of Myanmar’s most popular shopping malls, suffered from a months-long boycott after private security staff violently detained young protesters inside the mall in November last year.
Since an anti-holiday campaign by resistance groups in Myanmar was announced, Military Council raids have picked up pace.
