The Military Council arrested eight women in their homes in Tanintharyi Region's Dawei Town on 15 and 19 July, according to local residents.

Three of the women were arrested at their houses in Dawei's Wel-Kyun Ward on 15 July and the five others were arrested at their house in Kyatsarpyin, Daung Ngu and Bonmaw wards in Dawei Township on 19 July.

According to the arrested women's family members and people close to them some of the women were university students who stopped attending university after the February 2021 coup.

Since a junta captain ordered the arrest of teachers taking part in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) there have been a series of arrests of CDM teachers in Dawei Township in the last few days.
