Fighting near Rakhine State’s Taungup Port

There was fighting between the Arakan Army (AA) and junta soldiers near Rakhine State’s Taungup Port at around 1:00 p.m. on 16 September.

“The AA started firing at military trucks. The fighting happened near the port, the AA fired with heavy artillery and then they exchanged fire, it lasted about 45 minutes”, said a local resident.

“The conflict area is about three miles away from Taungup Township. Local residents are staying in their homes. We heard the constant sound of both heavy and light artillery until the evening”, said a Taungup resident.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties on either side.
