Junta soldiers conducting overnight guest registration list inspections in Yangon City’s Sanchaung Township took five young people away from a dormitory on 23 July.

Any overnight guests have to be registered with the authorities by their hosts. On the evening of 23 July junta soldiers inspected places to ensure that any people not registered as residents had been registered as guests.

According to locals, four junta army vehicles and three police cars blocked off Shankone Street in Sanchaung Township at 10:00 p.m. on 22 July. The soldiers and police officers carried out searches for unregistered guests until 2:00 a.m. on 23 July. They were seen taking away five young people from a dormitory.

An official from Sanchaung Main Strike Column said to Mizzima: “The military handcuffed and arrested civilians from the boys ’dormitory on the upper floor of the Soe Pyae Restaurant on Shankone Street in Sanchaung Township. These young people had registered on the overnight guest list.”

It is not known where the five young people were taken or what happened to them.

The junta personnel also carried out inspections in Kyaung Street, Myawaddy Street and Thiri Mingalar Street in Sanchaung Township.

This week the junta has also carried out guest registration inspections in the four Yangon City townships of South Dagon, Sanchaung, Botataung and Pazundaung.
