Fortify Rights launches Myanmar rights abuses report

Rights organisation Fortify Rights is launching “Nowhere is Safe”: The Myanmar Junta's Crimes Against Humanity Following the Coup d’État with an online press conference and panel discussion, on 24 March.

The 193-page report has been produced by Fortify Rights and the Orville H. Schell, Jr. Center for International Human Rights at Yale Law School.

The report draws on leaked information and more than 120 interviews with eyewitnesses, survivors, active-duty military personnel and deserters. It reveals new details that may assist future prosecutions, including:

  • New evidence of the junta’s crimes and coordinated attack on the civilian population.
  • New information about the military command structure during attacks on civilians.
  • The identities of 61 military and police officials who should be investigated and possibly prosecuted for their roles in the crackdown.
  • The identification of more than 1,000 locations of military units nationwide.
  • In-depth legal analysis of the latest available evidence, establishing a course for legal accountability.
