Incorrectly registered Myanmar SIM cards to be deactivated

People must ensure their SIM card registration details are correct before 31 January 2023 as any incorrectly registered SIM cards will be deactivated after that date, according to an announcement by the junta Department of Communications.

According to the junta newspaper, the Mirror, people need to review their SIM card registration data, such as the SIM card owner’s name and their national identification card number and ensure it is the same as their data that is held on the junta’s Ministry of Immigration and Population National Database.

Any SIM cards that still have incorrect registration information after 31 January 2023 will be deactivated and any money left in the SIM’s mobile wallet will be taken by the state.

The junta also warned telecoms operators and SIM card sellers that they must follow official instructions on telling people how to correctly register their SIM cards so that people provide accurate information. Any that do not will have the necessary action taken against them under the law.

People who want to check whether their name and ID number are correct can dial (*601#) for MPT, (*979*3*3#) for Atom, (*666#) for Ooredoo, and (*966#) for Mytel.

People who want to update their SIM card registration details can either contact SIM card websites or go to their telecoms provider’s website, according to the Department of Communication.
