Since 27 August the junta has been arresting teaching and administrative staff from Mandalay University who are striking as part of the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).

"They (the junta) have arrested CDM teachers and administrative staff who were working at Mandalay University. They are stationed in the university compound. We heard that 40 CDM teachers and administrative staff have been arrested by junta troops", said a source from Mandalay University.

He explained that many junta personnel started looking for and arresting CDM participants working for the university at noon on 27 August. When they go to a CDM participant's house and cannot find them they are arresting everyone they find in the house, including elderly people and children, he added.

Earlier this month, on 20 August, the junta also arrested teachers and administrators from Yadanarbon University participating in the CDM.
