The Regional Immigration Office and Road Transport Administration Department in Dawei Town’s Myothit Ward 4 in Tanintharyi Region were attacked at noon on 30 August.

A witness said that two men on motorcycles pulled up in front of the offices and opened fire on them.

During the shooting former traffic policeman, U Nyunt Shwe, was hit and killed. 

A Dawei resident said: “The two buildings are quite close to each other. He [U Nyunt Shwe] ran for his life, unfortunately, he died on the spot.”

The attack was carried out by Guerrilla Dawei a local People’s Defence Force (PDF). In a statement issued after the attack the group claimed that U Nyunt Shwe had been an informant for the junta who would give false testimony in court for a fee, which is why he was executed.
