The Myanmar government officials under the Military Council reportedly threatened farmers with the seizing of their farmland unless they grow sunflowers.

The township administrators appointed by the Junta met the farmers in October and they forced the farmers to grow sunflower on their farms otherwise their land would be seized by the government.

It is reportedly saying that forcing farmers who usually grow the paddy in their farmlands to grow sunflower instead might be because of an astrologer’s advice for good fortune of the head of the Military Council.
