Junta troops burned down 600 homes, including one where two senior citizens were sheltering, in villages in Magwe Region's Yezagyo Township, on 15 August.

According to locals, the remains of U Myal and Daw Tin Myint, who were over 80 years old, were found in the burnt-out remains of their house in Hlay-Khoke Village. It is not known if they were still alive when the house was burned down.

"Two people who couldn't run away were left in Hlay-Khoke Village when the military raided. We are unsure whether they were already dead [when the fire was set] or were burned alive. After the military left all we could find were bones", said a villager from Hlay-Khoke Village.

On 15 August about 100 junta soldiers stationed in Yezagyo Township's Min Village entered other villages in Yezagyo Township. They burned down over 300 houses in Nga-tayaw Village and 180 houses in Hlay-Khoke Village. They also burned down houses in YayYar village, Sin Tae Village and Pauk Taw Village.

More than 10,000 residents from eight Yezagyo Township villages ((Pauktaw, Nga-tayaw, Yayyar, Nayyin, Kyunnyo, Natpay, Chanya and Nweni) have now fled the area and become internally displaced people (IDPs).

“Food and Medicine are the main problems right now. The nearby villages are providing us with food and shelter”, said an IDP from Yaelalkyun Village.
