The Kempinski Hotel group as just made an announcement that they have had to make the difficult decision to cease operations of the Kempinski Hotel Nay Pyi Taw Myanmar for the foreseeable future.

“We have been working to maintain the high quality of the services are guests deserve … however the current operating environment makes it impossible for us to do so,” they said in a press release.

The hotel group stopped taking bookings, entertainment or other services provided at the hotel from 13 October.

In the wake of the 1 February military coup, including the arrest of the elected civilian government, and the resulting drop in international investors and business people, Myanmar’s capital has resembled a ghost city more than at any time over the last decade. In addition, the hotel business in Myanmar has been badly hot by the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, which have prompted the closure of borders and an effective end to tourism and foreign visitors.
