KIO to work with all organizations in Myanmar for a federal democracy

The Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) announced on January 26 that it will try together with all organizations to work for the emergence of a federal democracy in Myanmar.

The KIO made the announcement just ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Myanmar Spring Revolution.

The KIO also expressed thanks to neighbouring countries, ASEAN, the United Nations and the Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M) that is trying to resolve the Myanmar crisis.

The KIO said that the State Administration Council which seized power, needs to be based on justice and consider the will of the people in order to resolve the crisis. The KIO warns that the long-running conflict in Myanmar could lead to total destruction if the crisis is not resolved in time.

The KIO urged the military junta not to carry out targeted attacks on civilians. It also called on the junta to protect the people, and provide food security. The international community and neighbouring countries are also urged to provide more support for the prevention and control of COVID-19.

In addition, the KIO points out that regional stability is a priority for Myanmar, as China calls for border stability and a ceasefire because the Winter Olympics and the Paralympic Games will be hosted by Beijing during the coming period of the Chinese New Year.
