Landmine detonated in front police station in Bago Region

Local defence forces detonated a landmine in front of a police station in Kanyutkwin Town, in Bago Region’s Phyuu Township at about 10:30 a.m. on 31 October.

The explosion in front of Kanyutkwin Police Station on the Yangon to Mandalay highway seriously injured a police inspector in the abdomen and injured two other police officers in their legs, according to the Nagapat Urban Guerilla Force, one of the groups involved in the attack.

A press officer from Bago People's Defense Force, another defence force involved in the attack said: “We waited for the policeman with our motorbike at a betel store on the other side of the road [from the police station]. We saw some police officers appear from the police station, so we detonated a land mine remotely.

“The NUG Ministry of Defense and the Bago Region military command have instructed all PDFs and Urban Guerrilla forces to ensure the public remains safe when they carry out their missions, so we are requesting to the public to avoid people affiliated with the military regime.”

He also said that the attack had been carried out as part of the Nan Htike Aung Operation and that they are targeting junta personnel in Bago Region for further attacks.

The attack on Kanyutkwin Police Station was carried out by the Nagapat Urban Guerilla Force, the Bago People's Defense Force and other local defence forces.
