Low college and university enrollment under Myanmar Military Council

The Military Council’s Ministry of Education stated that universities and colleges opened on 12 May but only a few students have enrolled.

Although the Ministry of Education announced that they will accept the school enrollment for the University students since 18 April there have been few enrollments up until 11 May, according to the Higher Education Community.

“There are not many students registered to enroll. Most of the students who enrolled are fresh year (first year) students,” a member of staff from Dagon University told Mizzima.

The number of student enrollments in the University of East Yangon is also low, and currently no further details on the number of student enrollments have been disclosed, a member of staff from the University of East Yangon told Mizzima.

After the military coup, many civil staff and students from the education sector have been involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) against the Military Council. Only a few students reportedly attended last year.

“The Spring Revolution is almost two years and everything is getting harder and harder for some parents and students. However, the most students continue to boycott the military’s slave education,” an official from the Dagon University Students Union said.
