A 30-man gang destroyed the statue of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi in the compound of Masoeyein monastery in Kantat ward in Mandalay on 14 October morning.

A local said that the mobs arrived at the monastery, broke its main gate and destroyed the statue around 4:45 am before dawn.

“The gang of unidentified men was suspected to be the members of military-sponsored Pyisawhtee group. They just destroyed the statue of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, not her father Bogyoke Aung San, the independence leader of the country.”

He added, “The move would be a propaganda to misinform about public opposition to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.”

The statue was erected by the leading monk of this monastery which was used for the monastic school on 55th street between 40th and 41rst roads in Maharaungmyae Township of Mandalay city.
