Bangladesh officially complained to the Myanmar ambassador about the violation of its airspace by Myanmar for the third time in two weeks.

A Bangladesh foreign ministry official, Miah Md. Mainul Kabir said to Anadolu Agency: “We summoned Myanmar’s ambassador over the recent landing of Myanmar’s mortar shells inside Bangladesh. We strongly condemned the violation of airspace and shelling along the border areas,”

In the latest incident on Saturday 3 September two shells from Myanmar landed in no-man’s land in the north-eastern Bangladesh district of Bandarban. There were no reports of deaths, injuries or property damage.

Previously, on 28 August two shells from Myanmar landed in the same district and the next day the Bangladesh government lodged a protest with the Myanmar ambassador.

Since the first Myanmar military incursions, Bangladesh has increased border patrols and vigilance along the border.
