The Myanmar junta’s Ministry of Health and Sports (MoHS) has claimed that more than 11 million people have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Myanmar, according to an official report.

The ministry claimed that up to the 23 November another 4.7 million had received their first jab. The junta said that it had received 24 million doses of Sinopharm from China plus 3 million donated doses of Sinovac.

Junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that he believed 50 percent of the country’s population will be vaccinated by the end of this year.

MoHS figures show 519,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Myanmar with over 19,000 deaths.

According to the data, Myanmar saw a serious spike in deaths in July and August that has now tapered off with lower daily death numbers.
