Myanmar junta informant assassinated in Tanintharyi’s Yebyu following warnings

Local people claim that a Military Council informant who had received numerous warnings by a local People’s Defence Force (PDF) was shot dead on 25 August in Ekani village, Yebyu Township, Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region.

According to a local resident, Naw Gwa, the Military Council informant, was shot dead while walking on the road on the morning of 25 August.

“He usually doesn’t stay at his home all day. He was a person who went to various places and brought information for the Military Council. When the Military Council troop enters a village, he steals things from the houses,” a Yebyu resident said.

According to the residents, local PDF and some of residents in Yebyu townships have repeatedly notified him to stop being a junta informant but he did not comply and maybe that was why he was killed.

Assassinations of junta informants and civilian officials is common in crisis-hit Myanmar following the 2021 coup.
