Myanmar junta interrogation centre in Yangon bombed

Uncertainty surrounds the bombing of a Myanmar junta interrogation centre recently in Yangon.

No. (1) interrogation centre in Yangon's Hlaing Township and the Interrogation unit’s housing in Mayangone Township were attacked with remote-controlled bombs on the night of 12 October.

“We heard the explosion indicating that No. (1) interrogation centre located in 14 Ward, Hlaing Township was attacked with a mine in the evening. We haven’t heard anything more from the interrogation centre,” said a local resident.

Then, at 8:11 PM in Mayangone Township, a remote-controlled bomb was reportedly used to destroy the Interrogation unit's housing near the intersection of Bayintnaung Street and Oakkyin Budar Yone Street, locals said.

“We started the attack at around 8 pm and we don’t know which organization carried out the first attack at No. (1) interrogation centre. We didn’t attack it, we only detonated at Interrogation unit's housing. We detonated using a remote-controlled mine, not with drones,” a spokesperson from Human Rights Defenders (HRD) said.

It is still unclear who launched the attack at the interrogation centre in Hlaing Township, he added.

The HRD spokesperson said: “We, HRD and allies, will continue to attack the Military Council soldiers to show that we will not change our beliefs.”
