Myanmar junta soldier killed in drone attack on Sagaing checkpoint

One junta soldier was killed and three others were injured when a drone dropped a bomb onto their checkpoint in Natluhtatepan Ward, in Sagaing Region’s Monywa Township on 6 December.

Combined local defence forces dropped an M9 grenade from a drone onto the checkpoint at about 4:25 p.m., before successfully retreating without suffering any casualties, according to the Generation YZ People’s Defence force (PDF), one of the groups involved in the attack.

A representative from Generation YZ PDF said: “There are typically 15 Military Council soldiers stationed at the checkpoint. They extort money from civilians and threaten vehicles and pedestrians with their weapons. We waited for a long time until there were no civilians in the area and then we dropped the bomb.”

Following the attack a local said: "The Military Council troops are threatening to burn the villages if they are attacked again by PDFs. As a result, people are fleeing.” According to locals 1,000 people have already fled from villages in the area of the checkpoint.

The attack on the checkpoint was carried out by a joint force from Generation YZ PDF, Bandula PDF, the Democratic Guerrilla Force (DGF), and the Urban Hunter Force (UHF).
