Myanmar junta troops arrest abbot and four others at Dawei District monastery

Junta troops entered a monastery in Launglon Township in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei District at about 3:00 a.m. on 14 November and detained five people, including two monks.

A local said: “[People at] the Kyal Taung Monastery in Launglon Township, located between Nyinmaw Village and Gawtinn Village, may have been accused of having contact with people’s defence force (PDF) organisations and arrested. Among those detained were a monk and an abbot. The other people [who were arrested] were monastic students.”

Those arrested at the monastery were: the abbot, U Panyawbhasama; the monk U Nandavara; and the monastic students, Win Htet, Nay Toe, and Isalan. Currently, they are all still being held in detention, according to locals.
