Myanmar junta soldiers shot at protesting youths outside Botahtaung Pagoda on Strand Road in Yangon City at about midday on 30 November.

A witness said: "Some of the vendors near the Pagoda said that Junta troops had been waiting in the Botahtaung Pagoda compound since early in the morning of 30 November to arrest the youth protestors. When I heard the gunshots, I was inside the pagoda on a pilgrimage to the pagoda with my family. We witnessed the junta troops shooting and dragging away a young man covered in blood. I don't know where they [the protesters] were taken. I heard that one of the protestors died due to a gun shoot wound.”

Local residents also confirmed that they had seen the junta troops waiting in the vicinity of Botahtaung Pagoda since the early hours of the morning. They also said that after the shooting junta troops started checking vehicles in Botahtaung Township.
