Daw Zin Mar Aung, Foreign Minister of the National Unity Government (NUG), sent a formal message to the Deputy Foreign Minister of Brunei Darussalam on August 5, urging him to co-operate with NUG in humanitarian work and fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The message called on the two sides to work together with ASEAN to combat COVID-19 through joint ventures with the AHA Center, in addition to other forms of cooperation.

NUG welcomed Brunei's deputy foreign minister, who has been appointed special envoy to Myanmar. It was said that Brunei's leadership within ASEAN plays an important role in changing the situation the people in Myanmar are facing.

It said in the message that NUG is concerned to see the Military Council continue to attend ASEAN-related meetings as the representative of Myanmar.

It states in the message that the Military Council explicitly violates the provisions of Article 1 and Article 2 of the ASEAN Charter and ignores the purpose and principles of ASEAN by threatening the people in Myanmar.

In addition, NUG said it is ready to work with ASEAN on humanitarian issues and the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic as the “terrorist activities” of the Military junta have led to a deteriorating humanitarian situation and rise in coronavirus infections.
