Nearly 13% of companies have ceased all activities since coup

Nearly 13% of companies in Myanmar have ceased all activities there since the military coup, Nikkei Asia reported quoting a newly released survey.

Around a third of respondents reported a 75%-plus reduction in the joint survey by 10 foreign chambers of commerce. And 21% said they have reduced activities by 50% to 75%. Just 5% of respondents reported no impact.

Of the 372 companies responding by April 9, nearly half were Japanese, at 182, followed by 115 Western companies. Asked for the main causes of the impact, with multiple responses allowed, respondents most frequently said that banks, transfers and payments were not working, at 77%.
