Acting President of the National Unity Government (NUG) Duwa Lashi La urged ASEAN member states to set a specific timeline to ensure effective implementation of the bloc’s Five-Point Consensus (5PC) as the Myanmar military fails to comply with it.

In his State of Union Address on 7 September, marking the two-year anniversary of the declaration of the people’s defensive war against the junta, the Acting President acknowledged gratitude to ASEAN’s efforts on the Myanmar issue.

The Acting President also called on the international community to support Myanmar’s Spring Revolution and to end the impunity of the junta from prosecution of crimes against humanity, with the killing 4,023 civilians, more than 1,400 airstrikes indiscriminately against civilian villages, homes and religious buildings as of the end of August 2023.

He also emphasized that the effective assistance of the international community will ensure the immediate victory of the revolution and will also lessen the suffering of the Myanmar people.

Duwa Lashi La called international aid to be provided directly to the people most in need, instead of providing them through junta groups.

He also expressed his appreciation to the assistance of ethnic armed organizations to the people’s defence forces, providing military training and arms to be able to conduct strategic attacks on the junta’s targets, and he requested their future contribution to root out Myanmar’s military dictatorship.

He also advised Myanmar people to support the revolution in whatever way they can, such as boycotting products from military-owned businesses, and the contribution of money or information to the revolution.

The Acting President warned Myanmar’s junta chief against using public funds to terrorize and kill people to protect the coup leader’s self-interest, destroying the lives and property of the people.

The NUG government said that more than 300 PDF battalions are operating in three military regions together with ethnic armed organizations.
