One police officer was killed and two were seriously injured when they were shot whilst shopping in Monywa Market in Sagaing Region’s Monywa Township, on 20 December.

The three policemen were ambushed and attacked near Monywa Market at about about 2:40 p.m. on 20 December whilst they were going shopping on two motorcycles, according to Special Forces 11, one of the defence forces involved in the attack.

They said that one of the policemen died and the other two were injured. One MA-13 submachine gun, ten boxes of magazines, fifteen rounds of 9mm bullets, and two boxes of ammunition were seized.

A Special Forces 11 representative said to Mizzima: “They [the polie officers] ) were Mytel telecommunication Tower guards in Monywa Township. They went to the market every day. We waited for our chance to attack them.”

The defence forces that carried out the attack were Special Forces-11, Monywa Township People's Defense Force, and Monywa Township People Security Force. All their fighters managed to retreat without suffering any casualties.
