Police station In Tanintharyi’s Launglon Township burned down

Defence Forces burned down Thakyattaw Police Station in Thakyattaw Village in Tanintharyi Region's Launglon Township.

The Launglone People's Defense Force (LLPDF) and the Special Guerrilla Force set fire to the Station, which included five buildings within the Station compound, as well as the barracks and two bunkers.

Previously, on 13 January all the junta personnel at the police station, approximately 50 police officers and soldiers, abandoned the police station.

According to local residents, they have joined the junta forces in Launglon Town and are providing security for the town’s administrative offices.

One said: "We know the Police Station was destroyed by fire. However, no one was present at the station, The police and soldiers had already left. I believe the PDFs burned it down to ensure that the Policemen and junta soldiers do not return to the station.”

The junta has not yet launched any military operations in the Thakyattaw Village area since the burning down of the police station, but villagers are worried that fighting may soon erupt in the area, according to the LLPDF.

An LLPDF representative said: “Every Junta pillar causing trouble for civilians will be destroyed. The Military Council troops have yet to respond to the incident. However, they could return to the police station at any time, so we must remain vigilant and careful.
