Rally in Australia calls for recognition of Myanmar’s National Unity Government

Myanmar nationals hosted a rally in Sydney calling on the Australian government to support the Myanmar people’s struggle against the military junta that took power in February.

The rally under the banner Global Action for Myanmar Spring Revolution was held Saturday in front of St James Cathedral in downtown Sydney was hosted by various ethnic groups including Kachin, Karen, Chin, Rakhine and Shan.

The rally was organized to help raise awareness of the events happening in Myanmar between the military regime and innocent civilians.

According to the organizers, there are three countries that recognize Myanmar’s National Unity Government or NUG but Australia isn't one of them.

They called on the Australian government to recognize NUG, impose sanctions on the Myanmar military, offer humanitarian aid, and provide help to Myanmar nationals who are either onshore or seeking protection outside of Australian borders.
