Regional Hluttaw MP’s house ransacked by military

The house of Kyaw Zeya, Regional Hluttaw MP and National League for Democracy (NLD) member, for Pyay Township, was broken into by military council troops on July 6 and his belongings were confiscated.

Kyaw Zeya, who is on the run from the military junta, responded that they were much worse than “robbers".

He said, "At home, there is a TV, a refrigerator, a fan, furniture, two sets of motorcycles, a bicycle, a water motor at home. These are worth more than 6 million MMK. This action is very anarchic. After the military coup, our people are no longer safe. They (Junta force) are more than just thieves".

Kyaw Zaya, who won two elections, was also detained on February 1, the day of the military coup and released a few days later. And then, He, with his wife and two daughters, went on the run.

In February, police and soldiers stormed the house of the Region No.2 MP, destroying the house with guns and slingshots, and threatening neighbours with gunfire.

The 38-year-old MP won a landslide victory in the 2015 and 2020 general elections.
