Resistance attacks on two military camps in Mon State kill four

Four people were killed in resistance attacks on two Myanmar Army camps in Ye Township in Mon State on 12 September. 

Reports indicate that the joint revolutionary forces carried out mortar attacks on two Military Council camps of the Light Infantry Battalion (583) and Light Infantry Battalion (591) near Kyaungywar village in Ye Township, Mon State.

According to Naing Nagar, the leader of the Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF), the joint revolutionary forces carried out simultaneous mortar attacks on the two camps at 2:30 pm on 12 September. 

The attacks resulted in the deaths of a Second Lieutenant, a lance corporal, a private, and the wife of a soldier. Furthermore, seven individuals sustained injuries during the incident.

Naing Nagar said, “We received information from our informants confirming the loss of four lives from Light Infantry Battalion (591). As of Light Infantry Battalion (583), we have not received precise information yet. Currently, we are in the process of verifying the extent of the damage inflicted on the two camps.”

Mizzima was unable to independently verify the reported deaths of Military Council soldiers as a result of the mortar attacks.

According to residents of Kyaungywar, following the mortar attack carried out by resistance forces, at approximately 3 pm, soldiers from Light Infantry Battalion (583) and Light Infantry Battalion (591) retaliated by firing heavy weapons, including 60 mm and 79 mortars, into the village. As a consequence, six local residents, including three women, sustained injuries, and several houses and local shops were destroyed. 

The attacks were carried out by a coalition of revolutionary forces operating in Ye Township, including Dawna Column, Ye Guerrilla Force (YGF), Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF), Ye Defense Force (YDF), Mon State Revolutionary Organization (MSRO), All Burma Students' Democratic Front Battalion (1), Ye Air Force (YAF), and KNLA Battalion (27).
