Resistance group warns the public not to use Sagaing's Monywa to Chaung U Road

The Chaung U People Defense Force (CHUPDF) announced on 19 July that the Monywa to Chaung U road in Sagaing Region has been temporarily closed because of a security emergency.

CHUPDF asked people not to use the road until further notice and said they could not guarantee the safety of people who do need heed the announcement and use the road.

"Junta troops are using the Monywa to Chaung U road to transport troops, food and weapons to military bases. They travel in columns with 70 or 80 soldiers. Fighting could happen anytime so we are asking people to avoid using the Monywa to Chaung U road for their own safety."

A member of the public's car was caught in a landmine explosion when a local resistance force attacked junta troops on the Monywa to Chaung U road near Khin Mon village in Chaung U Township on 11 July. So far, no resistance groups have claimed responsibility for planting the landmines.
