Rockets fired at Myanmar junta Monywa Township camp

Local resistance forces fired rockets at the junta’s Aung Zaya Hill Camp in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region at about 4:00 p.m. on 26 December.

According to a statement by the A Mi Myay Special Task Force, one of the groups involved in the attack, they attacked the base, which is near to the Monywa to Pathein Road, after learning that members of the military aligned Pyu Saw Htee militia had arrived at the base from Chaung U Township in Sagaing Region.

Min Ko, an A Mi Myay Special Task Force commander said to Mizzima: “In recent days the Military Council troops have suffered heavy casualties in battles with local resistance forces in Sagaing Region, so the junta is getting members of the Pyu Saw Htee to deliver supplies to junta military units rather than using their quartermaster units [to deliver supplies]. When we learned that 70 Pyu Saw Htee members were at the camp we launched rockets into the camp.”

The junta soldiers fired long-range artillery from the camp for over 30 minutes, but they stopped firing after five rockets exploded in the camp killing at least five Pyu Saw Htee members and injuring many others, according to Min Ko
